Rockstar Interview
Masterplan software allows managers and planners of a shipping container storage “yard” to visually see and plan where each container is or is going. From a ship to storage, from storage to a train or truck, etc. IT Rockstar Daan tells us more about this project.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PROJECT?
The biggest selling point of this project was the opportunity to work with extremely skilled C# programmers on a project which has a very high level of coding.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF WITHIN THIS PROJECT?
The high professional level in which the code is constructed, with respect to patterns and abstraction, for example.
What techniques tooling did you use?
This software is created with the latest c# .Net techniques and Prism and telerik components, to achieve a modern and responsive desktop application. MSTest and CodedUI are some techniques we use to stay above 80% code coverage. The complete project is audited at least once or twice a year by SIG (Software Improvement Group). The DevOps aspect is housed in Visual Studio Online.
WHAT DID THE PROJECT DELIVER TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE/USER?
Each movement of a container quickly costs between 10 and 20 euros. The more efficiently this can be planned the more money and time can be saved.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN THE PROJECT?
My overall expertise in .Net has grown by leaps and bounds. In addition, I have learned to work with Jetbrain’s Rider.
WHAT MADE TEAM ROCKSTARS IT-WORTHY?
The level and the “stakes”. In an industry where you work with large numbers; Whether in numbers of containers, tonnage of freight or financial value position a product to meet such stringent requirements. That makes it IT Rockstar worthy.
What does our rockstar say on this project?
My expertise of .NET has grown by leaps and bounds.
