WHAT WE KNOW.
ABOUT AI.
SO FAR.

This is where you’ll find all our reports, insights and webinars on AI. From AI-assisted development and agentic coding to AI governance and the impact of AI on knowledge workers and organizations.

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING ALONG THE WAY

Our AI journey
is always ongoing.

AI is evolving rapidly. So is our knowledge. We’re exploring how AI is changing software engineering and knowledge work, experimenting with it in practice, and testing our ideas with engineers, knowledge workers, and organizations.

On this page, we share what we’ve learned so far. Not as a definitive answer, but as an ongoing journey. Here you’ll find our research, white papers, and webinars: ranging from the changing role of engineers and AI-assisted development to AI governance and the impact of AI on our work. We add new insights as we discover them. This way, everyone can follow what we’re researching, what we’re learning and how our perspective on AI continues to evolve.

WATCH OUR WEBINARS

GRAB A SEAT
AT THE TABLE.

Here you can watch all of our AI webinars. We invited engineers, AI experts and organisations that work with AI every day to literally take a seat at the table and share their perspective on the topics that mattered at the time. We talked about what they saw changing, where they ran into challenges and what actually worked in practice. We asked questions, compared experiences and shared the insights that came out of those conversations.

FILTER BY TOPIC

01 / AGENTIC CODING — FINAL RESULTS

Agentic Coding: speed without losing control

What happens when software development becomes much more agentic? We built the next step of our profile tool with AI agents and had the result assessed on code quality, functionality and how closely the software matched the specs.

We talk about

Where does agentic coding genuinely accelerate development, and when do you need to stay firmly in the lead as an engineer? Luc, Niels and Antoine compare three different ways of working: from a software and AI engineering perspective, from a cloud engineering perspective without a software engineering background, and within the constraint of using only European or open-source tooling. With the jury report in hand, we look beyond speed at code quality, functionality and how well the solution meets the specs.

02 / AGENTIC CODING

Webinar Agentic Coding Experiment

A hands-on software development experiment in which AI actively thinks and builds alongside the engineer — and what that means for the engineer’s role.

We talk about

What changes when AI does more than autocomplete code and actively participates in the development process? We discuss where agentic coding adds value, where new risks emerge and what role the engineer continues to play.

03 / AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT

From Intent to Reviewable Change

How do you work with coding agents without simply shifting the problem to the reviewer? From a clear work definition and relevant context to execution and evidence in the pull request.

We talk about

Which agreements and technical conditions are needed to make AI-assisted development genuinely faster and more reliable? We compare experiences with coding agents, context engineering, reviewability and responsibilities within the engineering team.

04 / AI & WORK

AI & Work: what does it do to us?

AI changes more than how quickly we work. It also changes how we experience our work. We look at autonomy, meaning, mental space and job satisfaction as AI becomes a bigger part of everyday work.

We talk about

When does AI make work better, and when does it create additional pressure? We discuss what AI means for autonomy, cognitive load, meaningful work and the way teams organise their roles and responsibilities.

OUR WHITEPAPERS

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED
SO FAR.

Four publications on the changes we're seeing right now. From working with coding agents and the changing role of the engineer to AI governance and the impact of AI on knowledge work.

01 · AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT

THE AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT HANDBOOK

In the AI-Assisted Development Handbook, we make the shift from writing code to specifying, orchestrating, auditing and integrating practical. Working reliably with coding agents requires a clear work definition, relevant context, a safe harness, execution budgets and evidence in the pull request.

If we don't approach AI-assisted coding thoughtfully, we simply move the work to the reviewer and gain very little overall.

02 · AI & WORK COMPASS

KNOWLEDGE WORK IN THE AI ERA

Drawing on insights from our long-running surveys among 400 knowledge workers, we develop the AI Work Compass. We believe AI only creates sustainable value when autonomy, room to think, meaning and trust come together.

Working faster doesn't automatically mean working better. More output can also create additional review work, cognitive pressure and rework. By making deliberate choices about roles and tasks, we can help ensure that work in the AI era remains interesting and meaningful.

03 · AI GATEWAY

FROM CHAOS TO CLARITY: AI GATEWAY

In the AI Gateway whitepaper, we look at the layer beneath all that AI usage: model access, routing, logging, costs, security, compliance and data sovereignty.

As AI usage grows across organisations, these topics can no longer be treated as individual tooling choices made by engineers. We provide practical guidance for making decisions that contribute to safer AI usage by organising it centrally.

04 · ENGINEER OF THE FUTURE

THE ENGINEER OF THE FUTURE

In Engineer of the Future, we describe a shift from writing code to specifying, orchestrating, auditing and integrating. Software knowledge and a deep understanding of the software delivery process remain highly relevant.

As agents can build significantly more code at speed, we see engineers making the difference in the years ahead through their interpersonal skills and their ability to keep a close eye on dependencies and risks.
