the founding story
of team rockstars it
Team Rockstars IT began not as a company, but as a belief: that IT talent deserves more. More attention. More growth. More joy in their work. Because organizations perform better when the people who work there are at their best.
In 2014, entrepreneur Laurens Simonse was given the space to build a new idea alongside his existing businesses. He started Team Rockstars IT with one clear thought: radically put people first, and performance will follow naturally.
Together with a small group of pioneers (including Tijs Luijbregts, Bart Nijskens, Simone van Erp, Floor van Pelt and Roeland Kamerbeek) he built an organization that wanted to be different from traditional IT companies. Not driven by hours or structures, but by craftsmanship, development and pleasure in work.
From startup to scale-up
The approach caught on quickly. Within a year and a half, it was clear that Team Rockstars IT was no longer an experiment, but an organization with enormous potential. Under the leadership of CEO Simone van Erp, Rockstars continued to grow from a bold idea to a fast-growing scale-up.
The philosophy behind Team Rockstars
The philosophy behind Team Rockstars IT has its origins partly in top sports. Inspired by sports manager Orlando van den Bosch, Laurens saw how top athletes work with a personal plan to become world champions: always with the person behind the performance at the center.
We apply the same principle in IT, says Laurens: “You don’t work for us, we work for you. Just like in top sports. The athlete doesn’t work for the manager, it’s the other way around.”

Ten years of Team Rockstars IT we celebrated in London, together with the whole company, to really reflect on what we have built together. Ten years of working with guts, skill and a strong belief in each other. London felt like the right place to look back, but especially to look forward: this anniversary marks a solid foundation for everything to come.
As of 2025, we are a proud partner of AFC Ajax. A partnership that means more than just being visible on the sleeve of the shirt. At Team Rockstars IT, we believe that no one starts in the spotlight. It starts with a dream, fun, freedom and talent. These are values we share with Ajax.
Where Tech meets Culture: On September 8, 2023, we opened the gates of our yellow-and-black world for the very first edition of Rockstars Valley. This is not a standard tech event, but an explosion of inspiration, learning, making connections and most importantly – a peek into our Rockstars universe.
In 2022, we reached a milestone together with our customers and partners, who gave us the highest rating to date of 8.6! This score is based on the quality of our cooperation with customers and partners, the expertise of our Rockstars and the quality of our service.
In honor of this achievement, we organized the legendary customer event at the Zandvoort circuit. More than 100 customers, 250 IT developers and inspiring guest speakers such as Robert Doornbos participated in the F1 & GP Event Formula Rockstars.
In 2022, we launched a social project called She’s an IT Rockstar. The goal of this project is to make the tech world more attractive to women. Why is that so important? Because women are still underrepresented in the IT industry in the Netherlands. This also means that we are not utilizing the full pool of talent. We need more women in IT to drive innovation and promote diversity.
The launch of She’s an IT Rockstar was shortly followed by the first magazine and event. Both are a great success! By doing so, we hope to inspire women to choose a career in the tech industry and that in this way we can contribute to a more inclusive and diverse IT industry in the Netherlands.
The Special Agents Program was born out of the ambition of our own IT Rockstars. A number of them wanted to be more than just a great engineer. They wanted to inspire and help others achieve more in the tech industry.
A Special Agent is a thought leader who focuses on technological developments within a specific field. Their mission is to share this knowledge and experience with the community. To achieve this, we offer appropriate tools and guidance. For example, our Special Agents can become international speakers and share their expertise worldwide.
The corona year when everything fell silent. Offices empty, everyone at home. Teams that normally built software together suddenly found themselves behind kitchen tables and attic rooms.
Instead of sitting still, we came up with the initiative “Brabant, ge kunt ‘t” together with a couple of befriended Brabant entrepreneurs.
With work-at-home survival kits, playlists, merchandise and, above all, a good dose of positivity, we wanted to give work-at-home Brabanders a lift. Not too heavy, but exactly what was needed in a time of uncertainty.
After three years since Team Rockstars IT was founded, we have experienced incredible growth. To keep up with this growth while maintaining our personal character, we decided to go regional. We introduced so-called “chapters”: dedicated teams by region.
This means that our employees can continue to work near where they live, which of course is great! By adopting the cell-sharing principle, we also ensure that our regional hubs never get too big and we maintain personal contact.
The first year of Team Rockstars IT was cozy, cozy, and depending on the season very hot or very cold. The 1930s building was beautiful but small. The little office was only 3 square meters and housed the three entrepreneurs. The hallways were narrow, and the work space for the first 30 Rockstars was cramped.
Soon this building at Julianaplein in Den Bosch was exchanged for our current headquarters at Lekkerbeetjesstraat 8 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Hands were joined in Paris in 2015 after which the starting gun for Team Rockstars IT was sounded. The creation of the new company was a fact!
