Rockstar Interview

At the LNS (Location Navigation Services) department, work is underway on the TomTom Maps Online Search API. Online search is a RESTful API for searching information about addresses, streets, places, intersections, POIs (Points of Interest) etc. around the world. In all this, IT Rockstar Andrej was particularly responsible for an application that converts TomTom’s vast amount of map data into a simple indexable (by Apache Lucene) and searchable format.

Chosen for a challenging project and company that is widely known and impactful internationally.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF WITHIN THIS PROJECT?

Proud of the amount of knowledge I have gained within a relatively short time. Knowledge of the latest techniques but also domain specific knowledge such as knowledge of map data, fuzzy Search, online maps and routing etc.

Java 8, AWS, Apache Avro, Jenkins, Maven, Junit, Spring, Mockito, Lombok, Git, Jira, Confluence

WHAT DID THE PROJECT DELIVER TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE/USER?

Users of TomTom products and services can search for streets, cities, zip codes or points of interest around the world at lightning speed.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN THE PROJECT?

Knowledge of previously unused techniques such as AWS and Apache Lucene as well as knowledge of setting up and managing large-scale search systems and big data processing.

WHAT MADE TEAM ROCKSTARS IT-WORTHY?

Worked at an internationally known company with a cool work environment on the 8th floor with a beautiful view of Amsterdam.
