Rockstar Interview

IT Rockstar Rolf was on project at De Haan. With the changing IT market, de Haan had a desire to set up a new POS system. The new cash register should be better suited to the new features such as e.g. Cloud computing. It also needed to allow the POS to run on tablets and on mobile devices. Here, an architecture was conceived and developed into a cash register that would allow for direct sales.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PROJECT?

Because of the opportunity to be involved with new techniques within a company, which is one of the few to offer total solutions for its customers.

What techniques tooling did you use?

The tooling I used was visual studio 2015. Techniques I used were Cordova, AngularJS, Typescript, Entity Framework, ASP.NET Web API, SignalR

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF WITHIN THIS PROJECT?

Within the project, I was responsible for building the back office system. In the process, I was given the opportunity to put down the back office architecture. I have received several compliments on this.

WHAT DID THE PROJECT DELIVER TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE/USER?

Within de Haan, this was the first Cloud solution, eliminating the need for customers to have servers on site. This took the responsibility away from the customer to manage and maintain it.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN THE PROJECT?

In addition to the new techniques, it was a challenge to manage all expectations. As a result, I learned to communicate better with people in different roles inside and outside the company.

WHAT MADE TEAM ROCKSTARS IT-WORTHY?

Within the project, I faced a challenging environment with many different interests, but was given every opportunity to work with new techniques and learn new things.

“I got to put down the back office architecture.”
